Sunset Dance Photography

Without stealing any thunder, I’d firstly like to thank Kirk Purnell for inviting me along for this sunset dance photography shoot. It is in moments like this, that as a photographer, you really have to be grateful for the creative community out there and their support for others. This was one of those moments.

Luck has one of those funny ways of materialising. Kirk had a photoshoot booked with Annabel at Brean Beach in Somerset and he kindly asked if I would like to join. I’d this photo idea in my head for a while now of capturing a dancer at sunset, on a beach, and then throwing my recently found style on it. Which you’ve already seen by the the post cover image, but there was still the issue of weather. The UK weather. Leading in to the shoot, we knew that there was a window of cracking weather coming. The night before, we’d both witnessed a group of photographers we knew take off with their cameras to capture the sunset and well, it was pretty good. But, the thing that let the sunset down that night, was that the colours were quite muted, because there was no clouds.

Roll forward to the night of Kirk’s photoshoot and there were ominous looking clouds everywhere in the sky! We still went for it, met Annabel and her mother, spent about an hour to park, before walking to the beach via the mass of sand dunes. I had a sneaky suspicion that the sunset would go, but you can just never tell. But then as we both started clicking away, the colours got more orange, the clouds started to separate (but still stick around), and then BOOM! Best sunset we’ve had in ages and these are some of my shots! Thank you Mr. Luck, we needed you!
